Mr. Franklin is President of The Sports and Entertainment Company LLC (Sports-EntCo), a diversified sports and entertainment marketing firm whose activities run the gambit from event promotion, corporate consulting and sponsorship sales to television production and athlete management. With projects as diverse as Danny Way’s Jump over the Great Wall of China and management of Barilla Pasta and Rip It Energy Fuel sports activities in America, The Sports and Entertainment Company cuts a wide swath across the sports and entertainment milieu. In addition, Sports-EntCo manages television and video production for and at a variety of major sports and musical events. Mr. Franklin is the founder and Chief Executive of this organization and has been responsible for all aspects of The Sport and Entertainment Company’s business since 2002.
A former competitive skier, Mr. Franklin opened the Denver Office of International Management Group in 1984. As Vice President and Managing Director of IMG Denver, Mr. Franklin produced, implemented and sold numerous sports events and properties including the World Alpine Skiing Championships, World Figure Skating Championships and Professional Tennis events. In addition, Mr. Franklin managed sponsorship programs for National Sport governing bodies and successfully marketed sports programs to some of the world’s biggest corporations and most prestigious consumer brands. Further, Mr. Franklin was the agent to three Olympic Gold Medallists and a number of World Champions in various sports, seeking out and negotiating many of millions of dollars in sponsorship and salaries. In 1995, Mr. Franklin concluded, managed and implemented the largest alpine sponsorship program ever, bringing new branding to the Alpine World Cup. Throughout the 1990’s Mr. Franklin managed the extreme sport business at IMG spearheading the internal IMG task force to bring these growing young sports into the IMG portfolio of properties.
In 1999, Mr. Franklin was recruited away from IMG to partner in America Presents and Ap-x, serving as President of Ap-x and President of Golden Gloves Marketing. At Ap-x Mr. Franklin bought and sold hundreds of hours of sports television programming around the globe, opening sales offices in Tokyo, Japan and concluding programs delivering large sports programming blocks in Australia. Some of the properties represented by Mr. Franklin were NBC’s Gravity Games, which he distributed around the globe and Retrospeed Formula-1 auto racing. Mr. Franklin brought boxing’s Golden Gloves back to network television after a two-decade lapse and established licensing programs to bring new life to this well respected brand.
Mr. Franklin is a graduate of the University of Denver, College of Law where he also served as a Lecturer in Law teaching “Sports Law” for a number of years. Mr. Franklin is a certified Ski Instructor, a competitive level water skier and an avid road cyclist. His leisure time is now spent sharing these activities with his state wakeboard champion son, Noah and his daughter, Paris. |
